Home Cities Yazhno Sakhalinsk hotels

The city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk lies on an island. It was founded originally by Russians in 1882, but in 1905, after the Russo-Japanese War, it was given to Japan by the Treaty of Portsmouth. It wasn't until the end of World War II that the city was taken back into Russian hands, and much of the former Japanese building and architecture has been destroyed. One of the few historical buildings still around today, with spectacular Japanese architecture, now serves as the Yuzhno Sakhalinsk museum. The city has many visitors due to the thriving oil industry, so it has many expensive hotels.
